Let me tell you...

Who NettoWise is

Hi, I'm Swen van Zanten, and in January 2025 I started building NettoWise because I was using Excel alongside my accounting package myself. But I felt it should be done differently. As a software developer, I also knew it could be better. So I started building.

Technical, but clear
Not just loose features, but systems that feel logical and produce understandable insight.

2025, and the start of NettoWise

I started NettoWise_ in 2025 because as a freelancer I noticed that hardly anyone really knows what they actually keep net. Many entrepreneurs mainly look at revenue or profit, but forget about taxes, reserves, pension, and other costs. Because of that, you often only find out how things really stand when the tax assessment arrives.

I wanted to build a solution for that. A tool that helps freelancers understand their real net income and see each month what they can pay out without running into surprises later. That is how NettoWise came to life: a simple way to get a grip on your money as an entrepreneur.
From spreadsheet to product
It started with manual calculations, checking figures, and aligning Excel with bookkeeping data.
Built from real frustration
NettoWise exists because existing tools did not answer the basic question of what you can actually pay yourself safely.
Designed for calm and clarity
The goal is not more data, but less doubt around taxes, reserves, and take-home income.
And Wise?

Who is Wise?

Wise started in a very simple way.

When NettoWise started to take shape, I wanted something that gave the product a face. Something that felt friendly while still matching the idea of insight, overview, and smart financial choices. That is how Wise the owl came to life.

The idea is that Wise is a quiet helper inside NettoWise. A mascot you can meet in different situations, always working toward the same goal: bringing order to the chaos of numbers and helping entrepreneurs understand what they truly keep.
Curious
Wise looks beyond just revenue or profit and focuses on what remains at the end of the line.
Clear
The mascot reinforces the idea that good insight does not have to feel cold or complex.
Approachable
Financial software can be warm, human, and a little playful while staying serious about the numbers.
