Car costs in NettoWise

Overview of car costs and how to record them in NettoWise.

Car costs are all expenses you make for a company car. Think of insurance, fuel, maintenance, repairs, lease costs, and taxes. Recording these costs correctly keeps your calculation realistic and ensures the benefit in kind is capped correctly in NettoWise.

Car costs reduce your profit and can lower the benefit in kind when you use the car privately.

Which car costs you can include

According to the Dutch Tax Administration, you can account for items such as:

  • Insurance premiums
  • Fuel
  • Maintenance and repairs
  • Lease costs
  • Depreciation
  • Motor vehicle tax and BPM

How to record car costs in NettoWise

You record car costs in the car section and link them to the correct vehicle.

  1. Go to Portal -> Data -> Car.
  2. Click Add and choose Car costs.
  3. Link the cost to the right car and choose the correct frequency or period.
  4. Save.

Examples per situation

Car purchased

For a purchased company car you usually register depreciation, because it is a business asset that lasts multiple years.

  • Add a depreciation in Portal -> Data -> Depreciations.
  • Use the purchase value, residual value, and useful life.

Example car costs (per year):

Cost itemAmount
InsuranceEUR 1,200
FuelEUR 2,400
Motor vehicle taxEUR 900
MaintenanceEUR 800
DepreciationEUR 2,000

Financial lease

With financial lease the car is on the balance sheet. You register depreciation and record interest as car costs.

  • Depreciation: via Depreciations.
  • Interest: as car costs linked to the car.

Example car costs (per year):

Cost itemAmount
InsuranceEUR 1,200
FuelEUR 2,400
Motor vehicle taxEUR 900
MaintenanceEUR 800
DepreciationEUR 2,000
InterestEUR 450

Operational lease

With operational lease the car is not on the balance sheet. The lease amount usually includes most car costs such as insurance, maintenance, and tax. Fuel is typically separate. Because the car is not on the balance sheet, you do not depreciate it.

  • Add the monthly lease amount as Car costs.
  • Choose Monthly and the correct period.
  • Add fuel as a separate car cost.

Example car costs (per year):

Cost itemAmount
Lease amountEUR 6,000
FuelEUR 2,400
